Once upon a wicked time....
From dutiful Catholic schoolgirl to romance novelist - plot twist! Sure, Evy attended church and survived an all-girls Catholic high school (complete with the mandatory tent-like polyester skirt that could double as sandpaper). But while her eighth-grade classmates were discovering Judy Blume, Evy stumbled upon her first gateway drug: Nan Ryan's "Kathleen's Surrender" - courtesy of her unwitting mother's purchase. Spoiler alert: it wasn't exactly Vatican-approved reading material. That fateful paperback (steamy by 1980s standards, practically PG-13 now) cracked open a door to worlds far beyond her sheltered existence. In an era before Netflix and chill - heck, before the internet - Evy became the library's most devoted romance section stalker. WEEKLY visits? More like a sacred pilgrimage. The librarians knew her by name and probably wondered if she was writing a thesis on bodice-ripping. But even the most well-stocked library has its limits. When she'd devoured every last romance novel on those hallowed shelves, Evy did what any reasonable book addict would do - she started writing her own "tawdry tales." And wouldn't you know it? She never stopped. These days, you'll find Evy in upstate New York, weaving stories that would make her old high school nuns clutch their rosaries. From steampunk to sci-fi, paranormal to contemporary romance, she's traded her polyester uniform for the freedom to create worlds where love rules and happy endings are guaranteed (though the path there might involve a few vampires, or time-traveling). Consider yourself warned: her books, like that first contraband romance novel, might just be your next literary addiction. No confession required. |
